Sanders revives 100-year-old recipe to return cookies to its bakery line

Clinton Township, Mich., September 5, 2018 – Sanders announced today that its new line of gourmet cookies, made with real pieces of candy from the chocolate factory are now available for order online at sanderscandy.com.

Families have enjoyed Sanders baked goods for more than a century and cookies are one of the company’s oldest products.

“We turned to an old recipe from the original Sanders archives as the base for our cookies,” said Brian Jefferson, Chairman and CEO of Sanders Candy. “To follow our tradition of making truly unique sweets, we then took actual pieces of candy from our chocolate factory and mixed them into the batter.”

Sanders Chocolate Factory Cookies were first introduced for individual purchase in its Metro Detroit Chocolate & Ice Cream Shoppes. Online shoppers can now order these same cookies by the dozen.

The new cookie flavors are similar to products available from Sanders, including two non-chocolate options:

-Sea Salt Caramel
-Chocolate Chunk
-Caramel Pecan
-English Toffee
-Peanut Butter Crispy
-Birthday Cake
-Blueberry Oatmeal
-Signature Assortment



“We bake these cookies fresh each day in our stores and online shoppers will get the same fresh baked experience,” said Jefferson. “We don’t have any cookies pre-boxed for mail order. Our bakers are on standby to bake cookies upon receipt of orders so every customer can be confident that their batch of cookies was made fresh just for them.”

To celebrate the launch of the new line of cookies, Sanders is offering free standard shipping during the month of September when shoppers order the new cookies online along with other warm-weather-friendly items like the company’s gourmet dessert toppings, popcorn or fruit and snack dips.

Allergy alert: undeclared almonds potentially in limited number of 3.75oz Fudge Mini Bites

Clinton Township, Mich., June 1, 2018 – Sanders announced today that it has issued an allergy alert after making an internal discovery that a product containing almonds was possibly included in a package that did not explicitly state this allergen.

This is an isolated incident only affecting Sanders 3.75oz Milk Chocolate Covered Fudge Mini Bites with the specific lot 8109 FL and Best By Date January 31, 2019 printed on the rear. These recalled packages were distributed to a limited number of retailers located in Michigan, New Jersey and Florida. Other products and production dates are not affected.

New Sanders Caramel Mini Bites harness the goodness of honey

Clinton Township, Mich., April 5, 2018 – Sanders announced today that it recently added Milk Chocolate Honey Almond Caramels to its widely popular Mini Bites Collection.

Keeping with its tradition of creating unique items with clean ingredients, Sanders’ new Milk Chocolate Honey Almond Caramel Mini Bites are made with real honey and contain no corn syrup.

“We already avoid using high fructose corn syrup in our products,” said Brian Jefferson, Chairman and CEO of Sanders Candy. “These new honey almond caramels go a step further by replacing regular corn syrup with real pure honey to give these caramels a great taste and amazingly smooth texture.”

Milk Chocolate Honey Almond Caramels are the fourth line extension of the Mini Bites Collection released this year. In January 2018, Sanders introduced Dark Chocolate Blueberry Caramel, Milk Chocolate Covered Fudge and Milk Chocolate Cherry Almond Caramel Mini Bites.

Sanders employee named a Notable Woman in Manufacturing by Crain's

Clinton Township, Mich., February 12, 2018 – Sanders & Morley Candy Makers announced today that one of its employees, Jody Clothier was recognized in the 2018 Crain's Notable Women in Manufacturing special feature.

Clothier joined the company as a general accountant in 1997 and took on several new roles and responsibilities over the last two decades. She was ultimately promoted to Corporate Controller in 2004. Her efforts in helping implement an entirely new cloud-based ERP system, along with her exceptional communication and leadership skills are noted as some of the reasons Clothier received this recognition.

“Jody’s commitment to our organization and her ability to lead our team to ensure quality in everything we do is an inspiration to our leadership team,” said company President Ron Rapson.
